Fly By Junk Haulers moving from Old Brooklyn

A new and growing business is seeking to move from its rented space in Cleveland’s Old Brooklyn neighborhood to put down stakes somewhere. And it found that somewhere in a faded brick building at 5363 Broadway Ave. in Slavic Village.
Certificates of disclosure were requested from the city this week by a title company doing its due diligence on four parcels that are under a purchase agreement. The public records from the city’s Building Department show the buyer to be Kevin Traub, principal of Fly By Junk Haulers, a registered tradename for Garden City Hauling Inc. incorporated in May 2023.
The company removes unwanted furniture, appliances and other difficult-to-dispose-of items from homes or businesses. It also clears out homes of hoarders and sorts through the items to find recyclables and other eco-friendly disposables, according to its Web site. It serves Greater Cleveland including Portage and Summit counties.
“We’ll be relocating both our office and primary warehouse,” Traub said. “We’ll also be relocating our power washing company that we acquired this week, and opening up a few retail businesses. The warehouse will serve as a primary hub to house and distribute items that we salvage to be donated to nonprofits and ministries across the city.”

Selling those four parcels, from 5363-5401 Broadway, is Noid Industries Inc., listing to William Paradis of Brecksville. They total 0.71 acres and include a parking lot plus a 13,230-square-foot warehouse/office with a 13,230 square foot basement, according to Cuyahoga County property records.
The brick building, built in 1926, is rated to be in poor condition by the county. Its Broadway-facing façade is covered by a colorful mural with encouraging messages about the Slavic Village community.
Fly By Junk Haulers is moving from a site whose street-facing building also has a colorful mural on it at 4323 Pearl Rd. The building is actually part of four structures totaling 17,180 square feet and owned by an affiliate of the Old Brooklyn Community Development Corp. (OBCDC).
“The business (Fly By Junk Haulers) has been a good tenant and we’re happy to see them growing to serve a larger market with a new location,” said OBCDC Executive Director Lucas Reeve. “By all accounts they provide a good service.”

OBCDC bought the Pearl Road property in 2021 for $329,900, county records show. It was built as an Earl Oldsmobile car dealership in 1945 and expanded in 1952 with a 5,420-square-foot addition. The property extends over to State Road. Prior to OBCDC buying it, the site was used as a car repair shop.
“We just got word that he is looking to purchase these buildings,” said Marilyn Mosinski, business development officer of Slavic Village Development. “We will be meeting with Kevin (Traub) to discuss his plans in the next couple of weeks and see what if any financial assistance he will need. At that time we will get a good idea of employees and renovations.”
For tax purposes, the office/warehouse on Broadway was valued by the county last year at $60,400. The three parking lot properties to the east of it were appraised at a total of $46,100. No sale listing for the property could be located online.
The building was last used in April for an auction of theater items, according to a listing. Other references to the address 5363 Broadway show it was used by a retailer named Electronic Surplus and by a company called All-Tronics Medical Systems.
