Guardians buy land, but no ballpark village yet

An affiliate of the Cleveland Guardians baseball team has exercised one of two property acquisition options that were offered when the team extended its lease on Jan. 1 to play at Progressive Field for at least another 15 years. The property acquired is a half-acre parcel next to the ballpark and located at the southwest corner of East 9th Street and Bolivar Road.

New Bridgeworks design wins support

Plans for building an apartment-hotel tower called Bridgeworks at the west end of the Detroit-Superior Bridge appear to be back on track after the development team made some design changes. Those changes allowed the project to win unanimous support yesterday from the Ohio City Design-Review Committee. The same committee last month sent the project back to the drawing board.

Eden offers a rooftop garden respite

Geis Companies announced this week that it plans to open a new sky-club and lounge called Eden May 20 at The Metropolitan at The 9 hotel in downtown Cleveland. Located on the roof of the 1010 Euclid Building, the address is actually accessed through the 12th floor of The 9 complex’s 29-story tower, 2017 E. 9th St., that contains the Autograph Collection-flag hotel and the Residences at The 9 apartments.

Downtown sites to add retail sports betting

After Ohio legalized sports betting last December, several locations in downtown Cleveland are getting ready to compete in offering sportsbook retail venues where customers can place bets on a wide variety of sporting events. And they’re doing it before the Ohio Casino Control Commission has established the ground rules for making applications for up to 40 sportsbook licenses statewide.
