An ambitious and innovative plan to construct a high-tech cold storage facility for medical and pharmaceutical uses along the Opportunity Corridor Boulevard has secured the top prize in the first Cleveland Equitable Development Initiative (CLE-EDI) real estate developer pitch competition. The competition was spearheaded by Cleveland Development Advisors and Cleveland Neighborhood Progress.

Fairfax, Glenville, Hough developments unveiled

The economic development boom in Cleveland’s University Circle continues to be felt in the neighborhoods surrounding this epicenter of the local eds-and-meds jobs sector. Four new apartment development plans were revealed this week as they go on the design review docket at the City Planning Commission. Combined, all four projects could add more than 150 workforce housing units with many more in later phases.

Record Rendezvous building among historic renovation awards

An historic building in Downtown Cleveland that housed Record Rendezvous, where the term “rock and roll” was reportedly first used to describe the genre, was awarded tax credits to aid in its restoration. It was among dozens of historic buildings across the state that were awarded credits today by the Ohio Department of Development.

The fate of East Cleveland

In the 1950s, after my mother Edith March Prendergast divorced her first husband, she moved herself and her two boys to Greater Cleveland to be near family. After a brief stay at the Alcazar Hotel, she settled at the south end of Glenmont Avenue in Cleveland Heights. Then she moved to the north end of Glenmont which is in East Cleveland. There, she, Dale and Dean stayed until the early 1960s when she married my father James and moved into his home in Lyndhurst.

Six local housing projects win tax credits

Six housing developments in Cuyahoga County won federal Low-Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTCs) yesterday from the Ohio Housing Finance Agency (OHFA), improving their chances of seeing construction in the near future. Those projects and 23 others elsewhere around the state received conditional LIHTC commitments. Developers will use those awards to leverage additional financing in the creation or rehabilitation of rental housing for low- to moderate-income Ohioans.
