Downtown sky-club and lounge opens May 20

Geis Companies announced this week that it plans to open a new sky-club and lounge called Eden May 20 at The Metropolitan at The 9 hotel in downtown Cleveland. Located on the roof of the 1010 Euclid Building, the address is actually accessed through the 12th floor of The 9 complex’s 29-story tower, 2017 E. 9th St., that contains the Autograph Collection-flag hotel and the Residences at The 9 apartments.

Despite numerous new and renovated high-rise apartment and hotel buildings that have opened in and near downtown over the last decade, the Geis Hospitality Group believes its newly designed venue will offer a setting unlike anything else in Cleveland. It features an architectural garden, unique lighting, plus new food, drink and entertainment offerings that, by surrounding you with “delight and temptation, you’ll feel like you’re in an unearthly paradise,” Eden’s Web site proclaims.

Eden replaces Geis Hospitality’s Azure Sun Lounge at the same location, overlooking the intersection of East 9th and Euclid Avenue. Not only does the venue have a different name, design and offerings, but the staff is entirely new too, said Conrad Geis, director and managing partner at Geis Companies.

Bar at the Eden is a seasonal venue accessed from the 12th floor and presented by the Geis Hospitality Group which owns and operates all of the food and beverage venues at The 9 complex (Geis Hospitality)

“The Geis Hospitality Group is excited to bring something new, fresh and unseen to not only the Cleveland market but Ohio as a whole,” Geis said. “The vision for the new rooftop lounge and sky-club is to offer our guests an ‘experience’ rather than just an establishment to eat and drink at. Our team, from construction to marketing, have been working around the clock to deliver a truly one-of-a-kind experience unlike any other.”

Eden will compete with other recent and planned rooftop venues that are open to the public without reservation, with reservations, or for special events like wedding receptions, corporate events, birthday parties and more. Those include Bar 32 atop the Hilton Cleveland Downtown hotel, Intro’s Truss in Ohio City, a planned 11th-floor restaurant at Bridgeworks, and restoration of the restaurant on the top floor of the 40-story Erieview Tower as part of a planned, partial conversion of the skyscraper from offices to restaurant and hotel.

“And while it’s true that the people of Cleveland have lofty expectations, our team has ensured that this experience will meet the even higher expectations that we have set for ourselves,” Geis added. “We are extremely grateful for the outstanding traction and support that we have received thus far from Cleveland businesses, residences, and public organizations. Geis Hospitality, along with the rest of our team, is ready to come out with an unforgettable bang that Cleveland has yet to see.”

Entry to Eden cocktail lounge will be via this garden-like tunnel.

Like the Garden of Eden, the entry, venue, offerings at the new rooftop lounge are advertised as an ‘unearthly paradise’ (Geis Hospitality).

Although a seasonal, warm-weather venue like Azure before, Eden will have more hours of operation and will be open seven days a week. Eden will be open from 4-11 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 4 p.m. to 1 a.m. Thursdays, 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays. Eden will also host DJs and live entertainment, a schedule for which is available here.

The food menu is fairly extensive for a rooftop lounge, offering everything from flatbreads to tacos, burgers to wraps, and salads to sweets. There is a happy hour menu with reduced price items for chips/salsa, sliders, flatbreads, truffle fries and a cheese/meat board from 4-6 p.m. Monday-Friday and an extensive brunch menu available 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sundays.

All of the restaurant and bar operations at The 9 are owned and operated by the Geis Hospitality Group, including Adega offering Mediterranean dishes, plus The Vault, a year-round cocktail lounge set in and near the Gilded Age bank vault of the former Cleveland Trust Bank.

The 9 complex also includes the former rotunda of the old Cleveland Trust Bank that was converted into the Heinen’s grocery store and has become a bit of a tourist destination due to its soaring opulence. And it features the 14-story 1010 Euclid building which the grocery store extending into its ground floor with offices, apartments and the rooftop lounge above.
