Cleveland Construction, Inc., the contractor behind the City Club Apartments project in downtown Cleveland, celebrated a significant construction milestone as the project reached its full height. The “Topping Out” event was held today and highlighted by a team lunch provided by Fahrenheit’s food truck and a ceremonial steel beam signing by all the craft professionals building the project.

The City Club Apartments project is a 23-story mixed-use development with 303 apartments located at 776 Euclid Ave. It’s a collaborative endeavor for the 25 Northeast Ohio trade partners performing work on the project. Cleveland Construction’s management team, trade partners and design teams were present at the event to celebrate with all the craft professionals who dedicated themselves to working on the project and reaching this milestone.

A previous “topping-out” ceremony was held June 22 to mark construction work on the highest floor on the building, attended by Mayor Justin Bibb, City Club Apartments CEO Jonathon Holtzman and other dignitaries. It was Bibb’s first topping-off event as mayor, who was sworn in the city’s chief executive in January 2021. At this event, all of the commercial tenants were announced for the building.

City Club Apartments on Euclid Avenue downtown appears pretty much in its final form including completion of the concrete “wave” roof above the building’s 23rd floor. Much more work is to be done, however, including exterior and interior finishes (Cleveland Construction Inc.).

Café Tartine, a breakfast and lunch venue that shift to a wine bar at 4 p.m., will be located adjacent to the lobby and have an outdoor presence as well. A two-level French restaurant called J’adore. Below grade will be a cabaret speakeasy called The Green Box, or L’Ecrin Vert in French. The Sky Club Café will be poolside on the 23rd floor. The first Dogtopia in Cleveland will be at City Club, to be joined by their next location for which construction began yesterday at Uptown Solon Center, 6025 Kruse Ave., Solon.

Today’s topping out marks the project reaching its full height at over 250 feet and work will now focus on the building’s exterior skin and interior finishes. On July 26th, the final large concrete placement occurred on the building’s curved roof to complete the project’s superstructure. A YouTube video of the event was posted here. This final 170 cubic yard concrete placement was 374 days after the initial installation of the building’s mat foundation that took place on July 16th, 2022. A groundbreaking ceremony was held Dec. 10, 2021.

“The steel beam signing allowed our team to leave their mark on the project,” said John Berg, Cleveland Construction’s senior vice president of operations. “This beam is a testament to the dedication and skill of the construction team, and will forever be a part of the building, representing the collective commitment to deliver a quality and on schedule project to City Club Apartments.”

Many of the construction workers who labored to build the new City Club Apartments tower were present for today’s topping-off ceremony which included speeches, lunch and the signing of the final beam to be set in place atop the tower. In the background is the next major downtown construction project, Sherwin-Williams’ new headquarters, to enjoy a topping-off ceremony, probably sometime this winter (Cleveland Construction Inc.).

The “Topping Out” event not only celebrated the vertical completion of the structure but also paid tribute to the hard work, expertise, and collaboration between all the trade partners that have been integral to reaching this significant milestone. As Cleveland Construction, Inc. concludes this phase of the City Club Apartments project, the team said it looks forward to the next phase of the project.

The project is undergoing a phased occupancy construction process, that will allow the building’s first residences to begin occupying the building’s lower floors in the Fall of 2023. Earlier this summer, the City Club Apartments opened its residential pre-leasing center nearby at 313 Euclid Ave.

The project’s tower crane is scheduled to be dismantled during the weekend of Sept. 15. The entire building is due to be completed in the Spring of 2024. Vocon Partners, LLC of Cleveland is the architect and City Club Apartments, LLC of Farmington Hills, Mich. is the developer.
