Progress Pics: Westline, Lakewood Common, more

In October, NEOtrans’ inaugural Progress Pics article featured exclusive construction photos of Lakewood’s Westline apartments.

As the exteriors of its two residential buildings approach completion, we’ll take another look at the continued progress on this and other developments in the inner-ring suburb.

Exterior bricks have started to go up at Westline’s building on the south side of Detroit Ave (Harrison Whittaker).

Westline will fill a 2.75-acre site at 16000 Detroit Ave, most recently home to Steve Barry Buick. The development is led by NewBrook Partners of Rocky River and The Krueger Group of Cleveland.

The development will deliver 190 apartments across two buildings, as well as a separate commercial structure for a Huntington Bank branch. One of the apartment buildings will include a ground-level retail space.

At the corner of Detroit and Brockley Ave, Westline’s northern building will add apartments and a ground-floor storefront (Harrison Whittaker).

The two residential buildings are far along in their construction; meanwhile, work on the Huntington Bank branch has yet to begin.

About 200 parking spaces are included in the project—most of them in off-street lots behind the apartment buildings.

Also on Detroit, work continues for the Lakewood Common development filling the former Lakewood Hospital site.

Since the previous Progress Pics update, vertical construction has not yet started.

From Belle Ave, excavation work at the Lakewood Common site has cleared the way for a prominent mixed-use building (Harrison Whittaker).

On the south side of Lakewood, two retail developments are rehabilitating older buildings with new uses.

Birdtown Brewing is renovating the former St. Gregory Church, 2035 Quail St, into a craft brewery and restaurant. Though it was originally planned to open in 2021, work on the project is ongoing and finally appears to be nearing completion.

On Madison Avenue, the former Misencik Funeral Home has been transformed to make way for K-Town Restaurant & Market.

The retail development will bring a Korean eatery and grocery store to the east end of Lakewood.
