In the coming decade, the state bird of Ohio may well be the construction crane.

That’s especially true in Ohio’s six largest metropolitan areas where more than two-thirds of Ohioans live. That’s because Ohio cities of more than 100,000 population, and places within 10 miles of them, will be the sites of megaprojects receiving anywhere from $240 million to $320 million in Transformational Mixed Use Development (TMUD) tax credits in the next few years.

Geotechnical drilling crews returned in recent weeks to the parking lots west of Cleveland’s Public Square to gather more data for the design of Sherwin-Williams’ (SHW) new headquarters. A high-ranking member of Sherwin-Williams’ headquarters development team informed NEOtrans that the global coatings giant has set its desired date for groundbreaking for the end of 2021 or very early in 2022. The source spoke on the condition of anonymity as the source was not authorized to speak publicly about the project.

More Bridgeworks planning details released

At the end of last week, more planning materials for the new Bridgeworks development in Ohio City’s Hingetown section were submitted to Cleveland’s Building Department and City Planning Commission. The submitted plans, albeit still preliminary, show further refinements to massings, floor plans, ground-floor elevations, materials usage and more.

Bridgeworks plans revealed, will add to Hingetown’s height

Conceptual plans were submitted to the city this week for a mixed-use development in the Hingetown section of Cleveland’s Ohio City neighborhood. According to those plans, the tallest building would rise to 11 stories or about 127 feet high.

Every few days I sift through hundreds of newly filed Cleveland Building Department records to see if something new and interesting was posted. Invariably there’s something worth noting there, like the filing yesterday by Parma-based Gazde LLC for an “ice cream/coffee shop with axe-throwing” at 5807 Detroit Ave., next to the temporarily closed Happy Dog bar.
