After the first image of a renovated Huntington Bank Field on Downtown Cleveland’s lakefront was publicly released today by Scene Magazine, local officials are asking why it and other images weren’t released sooner by the owners of the Cleveland Browns so that the public could have a more informed opinion on which stadium plan to support.

More than 4,000 federal employees based at Downtown Cleveland’s Anthony J. Celebrezze (AJC) Federal Building, 1240 E. 9th St., are reportedly going to be moved out of the 32-story office tower to privately owned office properties downtown in the next three years, followed by AJC’s closure, according to a spokesperson for Congresswoman Shontel Brown (D-11) who opposes the sudden move.

Cleveland City Council President Blaine Griffin confirmed this week that the city will invoke the state’s Modell Law to stop the Cleveland Browns from leaving the city for a new stadium site in suburban Brook Park. The Haslam Sports Group, owners of the Cleveland Browns football team and stadium development company Primacy Development LLC, released findings today from a study saying the Haslam’s proposed stadium in suburban Brook Park would benefit all of Cuyahoga County, including Downtown Cleveland. But county officials say they want the Browns to continue playing downtown and aren’t buying the study’s findings.
