While revitalization efforts since the 1990s have transformed Cleveland’s Ohio City into a vibrant urban destination, the demolition of vacant, abandoned, and fire damaged homes has scarred some blocks with empty lots. Construction of new “infill” development in the SoLo (South of Lorain) neighborhood is restoring the south side of Ohio City to its former glory — and in theory, creating an immediate source of property tax revenue.

New family clinic coming to Clark-Fulton

Cleveland’s growing demand for affordable health care and having one of the worst infant mortality rates in the country is behind a new clinic planned for Cleveland’s Clark-Fulton neighborhood. Cleveland-based Neighborhood Family Practice (NFP) is proposing to open a community health center in the newly refurbished Northern Ohio Blanket Mills at 3466 St. Rocco Ct.., just off Fulton Road.

Downtown’s new AJ Rocco’s reopening in May

If you remember AJ Rocco’s as a coffee shop in the neighboring Caxton Building in Downtown Cleveland, the new AJ Rocco’s is going to be a big change for you. Restaurant-bar owner Brendan Walton and building owner Paul Shaia spared no expense in renovating a 19th-century bank building at 828 Huron Rd. to its Gilded Age glory with all of the rich woodwork, brick walls and metal decorative elements one would expect in a cozy downtown pub.

Big plans for reviving Slavic Village

Two new mixed-use buildings, historic renovations of others, hundreds of mixed-income apartments and retailers that could include a grocery store are envisioned as part of a $60 million to $70 million redevelopment of the North Broadway Corridor in Cleveland’s Slavic Village neighborhood. And that’s just the first phase envisioned by a development team called The Village Partnership comprised of several of Northeast Ohio’s most prolific developers.
