A slew of construction permit applications were submitted to the Cleveland Building Department last week for the redevelopment of the former Voss Industries plant, 2168 W. 25th St., in Cleveland’s Ohio City neighborhood. This $63.4 million project along with a planned bus rapid transit corridor on West 25th promises to expand the vibrancy of the Market District farther south.

Market District Lofts in Ohio City to expand

But if a proposed expansion of the Market District Lofts in Cleveland’s Ohio City neighborhood happens, it might be the most below-the-radar residential development in the urban core since The Residences at The Guardian condominiums opened downtown. And the same developer is involved in both.

Voss factory conversion comes into focus

Legislation was introduced this week by several Cleveland City Council members to help finance the conversion of the abandoned Voss Industries plant, 2168 W. 25th St., in Cleveland’s Ohio City neighborhood into a mixed-use complex. The projected price tag to carry out the redo is at least $62 million. While the property’s owner and developer MRN Ltd. has been kicking around various ideas for reusing the property for the last couple of years, none of those concepts have advanced as far as this stage of nailing down its financing for a specific program.
