The Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency (NOACA) and the City of Brook Park, will host a public meeting next month to provide residents, businesses, visitors and other stakeholders with an opportunity to learn more about and engage in an open discussion on regional transportation and traffic pattern considerations associated with the new enclosed stadium in Brook Park.

Building a 67,000-seat stadium where none has existed before is proving to be a big expense for expanding road and transit systems to accommodate huge surges in traffic on a relatively small number of event days each year. And it is government funding that is being requested to cover that construction expense which has now risen to $122.15 million.

Although the deed transfer was signed June 24, the document transferring 179 acres of land to an affiliate of the Haslam Sports Group for a new stadium in Brook Park didn’t become public until today. Nonetheless, this is the deal that helps set the stage for the construction of a new $3.6 billion enclosed stadium and proposed supportive development for the new home of the Cleveland Browns.

A new multi-purpose stadium sought by the owners of the Cleveland Browns in suburban Brook Park appears to be growing legs thanks to a willingness by state lawmakers to fund a significant portion of the stadium’s construction costs. The biggest questions at this time are how much state funding may be forthcoming and will it make a big enough dent in the public sector side of the financial equation.
