Cleveland firm makes big changes in 100th year
As Higley Construction, formerly known as The Albert M. Higley Co., celebrates its 100th year, the company today announced its transition to an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) — officially becoming a 100 percent employee-owned company.
This milestone ensures Higley’s independence for the next century while honoring the values that it says have guided the company since the company was founded in 1925 — people, ethics, commitment, respect and excellence.
An appreciation for these core values have always tied our employees together, and now being an owner of Higley Construction helps all employees contribute to the culture created over the last century.
“Employee ownership is a natural extension of who we are,” said Higley’s Chairman and CEO Gareth Vaughan in a written statement. “For 100 years, Higley has been built by dedicated people who take pride in their work.”
“With this transition, every employee now has a direct stake in our future, reinforcing our culture of accountability, collaboration and excellence,” he added.
For clients, partners and the community, this change means continuity and stability, company officials said. Higley’s leadership, services, and mission remain unchanged, but with an added strength: a team of employee-owners whose success is directly tied to delivering outstanding results.
“Becoming an ESOP strengthens our commitment to our people and our clients alike,” said Higley’s President and Chief Operating Officer David Pastir, “It ensures that Higley will remain strong, independent, and guided by our values for generations to come.”
As Higley enters its second century, the company looks forward to continuing to build spaces that inspire, strengthen communities, and reflect the excellence of its people — now as proud employee-owners.
Higley headquarters is at 3636 Euclid Ave. in Cleveland’s Midtown neighborhood. It also has five regional offices and a portfolio that currently spans Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and West Virginia. Earlier this year, in celebration of its 100th year, Higley unveiled its new logo and company Web site.
The construction firm built the Edgewater Beach House and is currently working on the $100 million Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s expansion. Historically, the company built the Hiram College Science Building (1927), Curtiss-Wright Terminal, now Cuyahoga County Airport (1929), Historic Coast Guard Station (1939), and the Western Reserve Historical Society (1957).
