Progress Pics: Lakewood Westline apartments

NEOtrans has joined with two photographers to help us fill a void in our coverage of Northeast Ohio’s transformation — following up on the progress of developments that have already had their groundbreaking ceremonies.

For many of our neighbors, they don’t always get to travel by the sites that have started construction to check their progress. Other readers live out of town and want to know what’s happening with a project that’s of interest to them.

Looking east earlier this week from the intersection of Cranford and Detroit avenues at the Westline apartments. In the vacant lot at the far right, a standalone Huntington Bank branch is planned (Harrison Whittaker).

So NEOtrans has partnered with Ian McDaniel and Harrison Whittaker to document the progress of those developments via a new NEOtrans feature — Progress Pics. For many of us, seeing is believing and photographic updates provide a witness to progress.

McDaniel and Whittaker are journalistic photographers who stay up to date on the latest developments in Greater Cleveland and care deeply about their community. They feel the pride and excitement whenever a new structure comes rising up out of the ground and want to share that development with you.

Progress Pics starts in NEOtrans’ home community of Lakewood. At the streetcar suburb’s west half, on the 2.75-acre site of the former Steve Barry Buick, 16000 Detroit Ave., are the Westline Apartments.

Exterior materials are being added to the façade of the development, with a new building on opposite sides of Detroit. Developing it is Lakewood Detroit LLC, a partnership of NewBrook Partners of Rocky River and The Krueger Group of Cleveland.

A good look at the brick façade of the new Westline building on the north side of Detroit Avenue. Metal cladding will be added onto the exposed portion of green ZIP wall which covers most new multifamily structures today (Harrison Whittaker).

The development offers a total of 190 residential units, 10,000 square feet of commercial space, and approximately 200 parking spaces. Look for leasing information soon and the project’s completion in spring 2026.

Of course, that’s not the only development that’s under way in Lakewood. But that’s the biggest project that’s the farthest along. Check back with NEOtrans for more Progress Pics!

Just in case you were wondering — the construction barriers have been set up around the Lakewood Commons (former hospital) site in Downtown Lakewood but construction work hasn’t noticeably started although the fall colors certainly have (Harrison Whittaker).
