A planned affordable senior housing development at 3517 Walton Ave. in Cleveland’s Clark-Fulton neighborhood won universal praise Friday from the City Planning Commission. In fact, the commission considered it a potential game-changer for the neighborhood and especially Clark Avenue which, in this growing La Villa Hispana community, is lined with car-centric land use patterns, making it pedestrian-unfriendly.

Cleveland planners OK 150-foot-tall billboard in Flats

Cleveland City Planning Commission today approved placing a 150-foot-tall pole-mounted billboard at a Flats East Bank property owned by an affiliate of controversial local businessman Tony George. It is the second of three billboards that George has received city permission to build in order to fulfill a court-approved settlement prior to demolishing an oft-vandalized building for the Irishtown Bend Park in Ohio City.

Input sought for Watterson-Lake development

At a recent community input meeting, a basic concept was revealed for redeveloping the former Watterson-Lake School site on Detroit Avenue, between West 74th and 75th streets in Cleveland’s Detroit-Shoreway neighborhood. The design concept, called a massing, suggested a mixed-use, mixed-income development offering 112 apartments in a five-story building set back from Detroit, 12 rental townhomes, retail and small business incubator spaces fronting Detroit, plus community and park spaces.
