Ohio City boutique hotel plan gets Landmarks nod

A proposed boutique hotel for Cleveland’s Ohio City neighborhood was significantly redesigned after conceptual plans were first presented to the city’s Landmarks Commission six months ago. Members of that same commission praised those changes and the additional design and material details that were presented today by the hotel’s development team.

Starbucks is next chain to arrive in Ohio City

A shift to more chain businesses is under way in Cleveland’s Ohio City neighborhood. In February, NEOtrans was first to report that Chipotle is opening a store on West 25th Street in the neighborhood’s Market District. Now, we’ve confirmed that Starbucks has leased a spot near the West Side Market and across Abbey Avenue from the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority’s (GCRTA) Red Line rail station.

Pioneer/Jaja restaurants at INTRO set repair plans

Just after 3 a.m. on Halloween 2024, an Audi crashed at high speed into a section of the INTRO complex, at 2050 Gehring Ave. in Cleveland’s Ohio City neighborhood. While the driver wasn’t seriously hurt, the damage to the structure was so severe that two restaurants, Pioneer and Jaja, affected by the crash are still closed and repairs won’t be completed until 10 months after the initial impact.

Three vacant drugstores, three possible outcomes

In Councilman Danny Kelly’s Ward 11 on Cleveland’s West Side, there are three vacant drugstores. Each is facing a different potential outcome. A former CVS on Madison Avenue at West Boulevard may be replaced by a fire station after a gas station was rejected by the neighborhood. An abandoned Rite Aid at West 117th Street and Lorain Avenue may become a senior center. And a vacant Walgreens at West 130th Street and Bellaire Road could turned into a supermarket with a gas station.

Cleveland’s Denison Manor may get rehabbed

An historic apartment building set near one of the west side’s most important intersections is proposed to get a major renovation by its new owner. The Denison Manor Apartments, 3206 W. 100th St. in Cleveland’s West Boulevard neighborhood, could get its interiors completely rebuilt to offer larger, more marketable, subsidized apartments. But work reportedly began without securing the proper permits and the city ordered the work halted.
