An historic building on Detroit Avenue in Cleveland’s Ohio City neighborhood was there when commuters on the adjacent West Shoreway went home on Friday evening for the weekend. When they went past the site this morning during their return to work, the building was gone.

Planning documents submitted to the city yesterday reveal that slightly more than half of the former Westinghouse plant overlooking the West Shoreway and Lake Erie could be demolished in preparation for the redevelopment of the surviving structures. According to sources familiar with the project, the surviving portions at the plant at 1200 W. 58th St. in Cleveland are proposed to be redeveloped as a boutique hotel, apartments and leasable commercial spaces plus parking.

The new owner of the old Westinghouse plant next to the West Shoreway in Cleveland says their development team has made great progress on a plan to revive the vacant factory. But while he’s not ready to reveal any specifics yet, NEOtrans has learned the project will feature a luxury hotel, housing, restaurants and possibly other uses.
