InterContinental Suites to gain resort brand

Many who stay at the InterContinental Suites Hotel Cleveland at Cleveland Clinic, 8800 Euclid Ave.,in Cleveland’s Fairfax neighborhood, are visiting for an extended period, such as for medical testing and long-term treatments. So as long as they’re here, they’re now going to get a resort-style stay.

Property owner Cleveland Clinic and tenant InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) Hotels & Resorts are making a $1,244,930 investment to achieve that goal by upgrading the eight-story Cleveland hotel to a relatively new global brand, voco Suites.

There are three IHG-managed hotels on Cleveland Clinic-owned land at their Main Campus — the InterContinental Suites Hotel Cleveland on Euclid that’s being converted to a voco Suites, the neighboring Holiday Inn Cleveland Clinic by IHG, 8650 Euclid, and the four-star InterContinental Cleveland by IHG plus conference center, 9801 Carnegie Ave.

“We are committed to ensuring these hotels deliver the same high standard our visitors can expect at the Cleveland Clinic and at an InterContinental Hotel,” said Andrea Pacetti, senior director of public & media relations at the Cleveland Clinic.

The InterContinental Suites Hotel Cleveland is an all-suite hotel offering 162 guest rooms, three meeting rooms plus other existing amenities such as a restaurant-bar and public lounge. No major changes are currently planned for the InterContinental Cleveland by IHG on Carnegie.

“Through our partnership with InterContinental Hotel Group (IHG), we developed a renovation scope for the InterContinental Suites Hotel to upgrade the common spaces, restaurant-bar and guest rooms with a transition to the voco brand,” Pacetti added.

A renovated lounge at the voco Suites will offer a more comfortable setting to work, play or relax (DLR).

In a recent filing with the city, Kevin Curran, a principal at Omaha, NE-based architectural firm DLR Group, Inc., added that the interior renovations will also include the ground-floor lobby, meeting rooms and the fitness center on the second floor.

Public records show that the investments will be focused on the hotel’s first and second floors. That’s where most of the hotels common spaces are, which will offer the resort-style features.

“As the owner, Cleveland Clinic is funding the renovations and will adhere to IHG’s brand standards for voco,” Pacetti told NEOtrans. “The renovation is scheduled to be completed in October 2026.”

She explained that voco Suites is a premium, upscale IHG brand that will welcome guests with new features and amenities. The voco brand was launched by IHG in 2018.

Voco has quickly become IHG’s fastest-growing brand, reaching 100 open hotels by mid-2025 and aiming for significant growth through strategic conversions. The expansion has occurred through conversion of existing hotels, like Cleveland Clinic’s, allowing IHG to expand its offerings more quickly.

Most of the renovations work will be confined to the interior of the 135,000-square-foot hotel that was built in 1998. However, branding changes to the exterior, such as an updated monument sign and the lobby entrance overhang signage, will be made.
