MetroHealth adding more clinics at CMSD schools

A mix of federal and state funds along with a partnership of MetroHealth System and the Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) have come together to spur construction of additional health clinics at four Cleveland school sites to increase basic health care services to young people. A wide variety of health care services will be available at these clinics, including treatment of illnesses, mental health, sports injuries and even dental care.

First look at Cleveland Clinic’s largest-ever building

In several days, the City Planning Commission’s Design Review Committee will get its first chance to offer its opinion on what will be the Cleveland Clinic’s largest-ever building. The facility will be the new home of the Clinic’s Neurological Institute — a 1-million-square-foot structure that will tower over Carnegie Avenue, between East 89th and 90th streets. It is the current site of the eight-story P Building surgery center that is now is the process of being demolished.

Lakefront park expansion advances

While there’s been lots of studies about how to improve Cleveland’s lakefront, one is actually moving forward into formal design and construction permitting — the last step before acquiring funding and construction for an expanded lakefront park. And although the detailed design and permitting will continue through to the end of 2023, a big piece of funding for lakefront park expansion will be decided by voters next month.

To sit or not to sit, that was the question that caused the biggest debate today among members of a design-review panel of Cleveland’s City Planning Commission prior to supporting landscaping and site amenity plans for Sherwin-Williams’ (SHW) new global headquarters. The question became a point of debate over concerns of whether adding benches to the outdoor areas of the downtown HQ would attract homeless people to sleep there as is already the case at locations throughout the adjacent Public Square.

Solove to start one Lakewood project, abandon another

Both were slated to redevelop former car dealerships plus some adjoining properties with mostly residential uses. Death of Public Square’s parking lot

Work crews this week began pulling up asphalt pavement from the parking lot on Public Square in downtown Cleveland, ending a three-decade use that some urbanists considered an embarrassment to the city. It is the last of three project component sites to see construction start for the new Sherwin-Williams (SHW) headquarters. Work is now occurring on each of the three sites simultaneously with a eye toward completion in late-2024.

Harbor 44 sets new course in Ohio City

With City Planning Commission approval behind it, the developer of Harbor 44 is ready to set sail on its next phases of the mixed-use development in Cleveland’s Ohio City neighborhood. Local Development Partners, LLC (LDP) in 2021 completed phase one at the southeast corner of Lorain Avenue and West 44th Street, called Harbor Street before 1905.

PearlBrook shopping center to be razed

An historic retail strip where Cleveland meets Parma, but was often better known for its cinematic and musical neighbors, is due to be demolished. In place of the PearlBrook shopping center will be a Sheetz gas station and convenience store, plus some identified future development just north of it. The center, located at its namesake Pearl and Brookpark roads, has been the space between two places ever since it was built.
