Huntington Bank Field name to outlive Browns’ current stadium lease

At least we now know what a Brook Park multi-purpose stadium would be called, if the owners of the Cleveland Browns football team decides to build it. While most terms of the naming rights deal were not disclosed by the Haslams Sports Group and their National Football League franchise, we do know that it will outlast the current stadium’s lease which ends after the 2028 football season.

Haslam’s mini-downtown – at Brook Park or Burke?

The Haslam Sports Group plans more than a billion dollars worth of new development surrounding their proposed new domed stadium. But is that necessarily going to be in the Cleveland suburb of Brook Park? With an emerging effort by city officials to close and redevelop Burke Lakefront Airport, look for that site to be offered up as a location for the stadium and supportive development. Rumors are circulating that both could happen.

North Coast Waterfront Development Corp. names its first executive director

Over the decades, one of the biggest barriers to developing Downtown Cleveland’s lakefront with public and private amenities was the lack of a staff dedicated to that purpose. That barrier began to come down today with the hiring of the first staff-person to lead the new North Coast Waterfront Development Corporation (NCWDC).

Lakefront vision to be unveiled July 27

Although the downtown lakefront plans to released publicly on July 27 will be preliminary, they will give more insight into the direction city officials received from prior public input sessions on developing the city’s “front porch” as officials call the lakefront. And since these plans are still preliminary and conceptual, city officials said they want more public input on them before refining them and adding more design details to them.

Downtown Lakefront buildings no longer for sale

Two very visible buildings at downtown Cleveland’s North Coast Harbor that were listed for sale over the past year were just taken off the market this week by owner Cumberland Development LLC. There are several reasons why the Harbor Verandas mixed-use building and the Nuevo Modern Mexican & Tequila Bar are being retained. But one of them is because of the fate of the nearby Burke Lakefront Airport could cause the value of the site to rise in the future.

Lakefront park expansion advances

While there’s been lots of studies about how to improve Cleveland’s lakefront, one is actually moving forward into formal design and construction permitting — the last step before acquiring funding and construction for an expanded lakefront park. And although the detailed design and permitting will continue through to the end of 2023, a big piece of funding for lakefront park expansion will be decided by voters next month.
