Less than six years old, the Cleveland Institute of Music’s (CIM) new building called 1609 Hazel at its namesake address in Cleveland’s University Circle, has suffered extensive water damage due to alleged poor construction. And the bill for pending repairs just came in — $1.7 million, according to public records filed with the city.

The City of Bedford has reached a settlement agreement with University Hospitals (UH) that includes the transfer of the former Bedford Hospital site and surrounding properties to the city and a $2.1 million payment. This settlement ends a two-and-a-half year legal dispute stemming from UH’s controversial August 2022 hospital closure.

Two months from tomorrow, Cuyahoga County officials hope to get some ideas and cost estimates from private-sector development groups on whether to rebuild and expand the existing, 47-year-old courthouse tower at the Justice Center or build a new one. A new courthouse, which could be built next to the existing tower at 1200 Ontario St. or somewhere else downtown, was recommended four years ago as the least expensive option for providing expanded court facilities over the long term by the Justice Center Steering Committee.
