Multiple construction projects are underway at the east end of Hough, closest to University Circle, and more are about to begin. While work is rapidly progressing on the apartments and townhomes for Park Lamont, two more projects are about to begin and a third is waiting in the wings for more financing to be awarded to it. All are in response to the growing number of University Circle-area jobs and students. Even affordable senior housing is being added in response to this growth, with the goal to make sure seniors don’t get squeezed out of a neighborhood experiencing rising rents.

Cleveland Clinic to raze ex-TRW HQ

Two significant structures on a large piece of land in Cleveland’s eastern suburbs, whose prominence is owed to the industrial giants of Gilded Age Cleveland, face very different fates. One, the 106-year-old, 45-room Frances Bolton Mansion, will be preserved. The other, the 1985-built, former TRW headquarters with its four office wings radiating from a glassy central atrium, is proposed to be demolished by the end of the year.

Downtown Cleveland’s ‘office market needs help’

This week, global real estate brokerage Newmark released its third quarter office market report for Greater Cleveland and the news wasn’t good, especially for downtown Cleveland. While three of five submarkets in the metropolitan area saw declining occupancies of office spaces in July-September, none suffered a greater loss than the central business district. That district includes everything from Ohio City east through Downtown to Midtown.

Heating Up: 3 big downtown reno projects to start

This summer, renovations to a trio of large, former office buildings in downtown Cleveland are due to get underway that will convert their combined 2+ million square feet into mixed uses that will add 1,671 housing units, Class A office and co-working spaces, plus unique restaurant, retail and residential amenities. Total investment is projected to be $687 million for all three projects — The Centennial, 45 Erieview and The Rockefeller Building.
