Case Western Reserve University student and NEOtrans contributor Tyler Kapusta has been working for the U.S. Census Bureau in recent weeks. Much of his work has him walking the streets of Cleveland’s Glenville neighborhood surveying residents. And what he’s seeing is remarkable.

Seeing the $300 million Circle Square development back on Cleveland’s City Planning Commission’s docket again is great news for University Circle and the region. At the start of summer, it was uncertain whether the massive project would see the light of day again, or at least in so ambitious a scale.

After months of planning, a mixed-use development is gaining traction on Cleveland Clinic Foundation-owned land on the Opportunity Corridor. The development is an effort to capitalize on the $306 million transportation investment, support the Greater University Circle Initiative and serve a growing residential population nearby.

Plans were submitted to Cleveland’s Department of Building and Housing for an Amazon Delivery Station offering at least 200 jobs to be located at 400 Heidtman Pkwy. in the Industrial Valley next to Cleveland’s Slavic Village neighborhood. However, not everyone at the city who was informed of the plans realized it was for Amazon – unless they read the fine print.

One thing’s for certain — the Coronavirus pandemic hasn’t slowed the rapid spread of plans for high-rise towers in Cleveland.
The latest is a proposed 19-story, $60 million Dream Hotel proposed to rise alongside the Masonic Temple, 3615 Euclid Ave. The project was announced today by investor Beaty Capital Group of Fort Smith, AR.
